There are countless events that have occurred in history, which is and will continue to be discussed for generations to come. These are better known as historical moments that electrified the world. A spark of hope and a glimpse of freedom.
Speaking of freedom, in August 2016, a well known American athlete, Colin Kaepernick, shook the nation when he surprisingly boycotted the “National Anthem” at a highly publicized football game. Kaepernick sat during the song “Star Spangled Banner” as a strong sign of protest against police brutality and oppression of black people in America.
American citizens expressed outrage and in retaliation began burning the jersey of the San Francisco 49ers quarterback. There were even petitions from fans to fire Kaepernick. Unbeknownst to the younger generation, this is not the first time an athlete refused to participate in the National Anthem. Jesse Owens and Mahmoud Abdul-Rauf are just two very popular athletes that did exactly what Kaepernick did. Abdul-Rauf who’s born name is Chris Jackson, a point guard for the NBA, was suspended 20 years ago for refusing to stand during the National Anthem. The two met last Friday.

When interviewed by reporters, Kaepernick did not hold back his political views. He specifically discussed how Presidential candidates, Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump are horrible options for the American people. Colin went into details on the two candidates stating that, Hillary Clinton is involved in an ongoing email scandal and Trump is a flat out racist.
The company known as Wikileaks leaked exclusive incriminating evidence on Clinton. Kaepernick made it crystal clear that he believed if it was anyone involved in scandalous practices such as Clinton, they would be in prison.
Following this explosive protest, there was a tidal wave of athletes all over America, in both professional and High School, who refused to stand for the “National Anthem”. Many citizens of this country had no idea that the Star Spangled Banner was originally a poem written by a slave owner and the third verse, which was taken out, glorifies the murder of slaves.
Veterans all around the world began speaking up for Kaepernick on social media with a powerful hashtag #veteransforkaepernick which quickly spread like a wildfire.
Entertainers and Athletes were then put on the spot when media questioned them about whether they stood on Kaepernick’s side or not. Cam Newton, Lil Wayne, Gabrielle Union, and rapper-Fat Joe are just a few of those who voiced their opinions on such a sensitive matter.
While Gabrielle Union and Miami Dolphins player, Arian Foster stood behind Kaepernick on oppression in America, the others decided to turn a blind eye in regards to the reality of racism that clearly dominates United States government.
The athlete turned activist has become a freedom fighter for the people seemingly overnight. That is to the ones who were not paying attention. If you we’re to scroll through Kaepernick’s instagram account, there is evidence that he was slowly transforming into a revolutionary.
Understanding these actions, one may conclude that the people are truly the powerful ones, if they decided to stand up, speak up and fight back.
Oppression in America was greatly concealed for centuries, however, this is the generation of awakening. More people are speaking out against the brutal violence, propaganda and structural racism in this country. There is no denying what we see with our own eyes almost daily.
Classism, capitalism, repression and imperialism are just a few of the battles we face here in America. The people are given an illusion of inclusion in major decisions effecting their everyday lives, but what most do not know is, every decision is already thoroughly planned out and made before we’re given false options of democracy.
Many Black people are fearful of joining the revolution out of fear of death. When you really think about it, that is absurd, as we are already facing genocide simply because of the color of our skin. Not only that but being poor in America makes one an easier target for police brutality, government experiments, genocide and injustice all throughout our judicial system. Instead of being given a fair trial on charges brought against us, as African Americans, we are treated as if we are guilty automatically.
American police are puppets carrying out genocide and political agendas for Zionists and U. S. Government. Every other day there seems to be another video of an unarmed black man or child being murdered in cold blood for the world to see. When facing American police, you are dealing with Judge, Jury and Executioner all at the same time. This is why so many black people are afraid. Bravery is not in everyone. So when a young man such as Kaepernick takes a stand against the oppressors, it sparks a flame in others who may have been hesitant to fight the corrupt system we live in.
Members of the Miami Dolphins, Denver Broncos and Seattle Seahawks football teams quickly followed the footsteps of Kaepernick, which makes this protest even more powerful.
Athletes, entertainers and all public figures should feel obligated to speak up as they are on huge platforms with heavy influential power to make a difference in society. For this cause and these brave acts, many African Americans are extremely proud of the players. We salute them as it is well deserved.
The day that we all collectively decide to end modern day slavery and overthrow our Zionist infiltrated government, will be the day we see real change in this corporate controlled country.
